What does Article 50 require?
Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 (the AI Act), Article 50: people must be informed when they interact with an AI system (paragraph 1); synthetic audio, image, video and text must be marked in a machine-readable format (paragraph 2); and deepfakes, as well as AI-generated text informing the public on matters of public interest, must be disclosed as artificially generated (paragraph 4). The requirements apply from 2 August 2026, and under Article 99(4) an infringement can cost up to EUR 15 million or 3 % of global annual turnover.
